Where Has Jamie Been?

We’ve been missing the Rev. Jamesetta Hammons for the past four months.   Jamie’s regular job is supervisory chaplain at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Multi-Service Ambulatory Care Center (MLK-MACC) in Willowbrook, near Compton.  This means she supervises the work of a team of voluntary chaplains.  To resource her for this work, she has been undertaking an internship in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and the nearby Miller Children’s Hospital, as well as continuing her work at MLK-MACC two days a week (and fulfilling her responsibilities as a grandma), so that is why we have not been seeing her.

Jamie has often been on call at weekends, typically spending time with families who have lost someone (for instance, in a road traffic accident) to offer them emotional and spiritual support, not least in connection with the possibility of their loved one’s organs being donated for the benefit of someone else who is sick and may be dying.

We are glad that Jamie will now be back at St Barnabas, where as deacon she will take over responsibility for pastoral visiting of people who are sick or otherwise unable to come to church.
